What a rush! 11 brave souls took on Picacho Peak for a 3.1 mile hike to the top.
Ben, Judie, Carol, Lisa,Eillen, Jim, Jerry, Kathy, Jane, Mike, and David were the lucky hikers.
It was a beautiful day for a hike. We left the rv park at 5:30 am and arrived by 6:15 am. We were not able to get on the trail until 7: am. So we took pictures of the full moon and the early morning sunrise (see Facebook page) Once we started a brisk winf came up, urging us to keep our coats and sweaters on!
The trail begins with a slight uphill that turns into rolling hills, going up and down the many washes. It soon flattened out, but that was short lived and we began climbing in earnest to get to the base of the cliff, where some serious scrambling waited us.
We soon came to the junction of the Hunter trail, and the route to the peak. Soon after we encountered our first of several cable assisted climbs. Wow what a workout! We all made it up each cable climb and noone even mentioned not going on! What a group!
I will leave the rest to the video I produced. Watch it here!
